Ms and ts letters written to him during the First and Second World War, by friends and acquaintances, including an ms letter (7pp) from Lieutenant Colonel W R Stewart (possibly his cousin) giving excellent details of his experiences in the trenches on the Ypres Salient (July 1915); 14 ms letters (21pp) from F J Davis (a former employee of his mother, Lady Chichester) written during his service with 2/4th Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment in the UK and on the Western Front (January 1916 - July 1917), with interesting references to his previous service with Lady Chichester, and his first impressions of the trenches (September 1916), together with the letter to his mother informing her of his death in action (August 1917); 8 ms and ts letters (14pp) written between Chichester and Captain I MacLaren of 8th British Field Ambulance (July 1944 - April 1945) containing good details of his experiences during the landing in France on D-Day, conditions during the advance, and his impressions of the Germans as a fighting force and as civilians; and 2 ms letters (4pp) from a Cambridge medical graduate posted to Claybury Mental Hospital, Woodford Bridge, Essex (September - October 1939), commenting on the atmosphere in London during the early weeks of the war. Also with the collection are copies of 25 photographs showing scenes of the Siege of Antwerp.
