Photocopy of a ts memoir (9pp with drawing), written in 1994, relating his experiences as a Gunner II in the Sunderland flying boat, based on RAF Kai Tak, which made a special flight from Shanghai on 21 April 1949 to land alongside the frigate HMS AMETHYST, which had been trapped by Communist Chinese forces in the Yangtse river, in order to deliver an RAF medical officer and medical supplies to her and describing how they evaded a Communist Chinese aircraft on their outward flight, came under heavy fire when anchored close to AMETHYST and had great difficulty in raising their anchor before their rapid departure and also recording how they were feted on their return to the United Kingdom, taking part in a celebratory parade through London and receiving medals and decorations at Buckingham Palace; together with his printed invitation from the Corporation of London to the Guildhall luncheon to celebrate the escape of AMETHYST (16 November 1949), his RAF service and release book (form RAF 3810A) issued in 1950, his Royal New Zealand Air Force certificate of service (1952 - 1957) and photographs of him in uniform and of a Sunderland flying boat.
