Ms notebook (17pp), 1 January - 7 October 1914, written by him while serving with 1st (Drake) Battalion, 1st Royal Naval Brigade (until July 1916), then 189th Brigade 63rd Royal Naval Division, containing diary entries describing his training with the RNVR, taking part in various sporting events, including a field gun competition, being sent with his battalion to Deal after war was declared and travelling to Belgium to assist retreating Belgian forces; an ms letter (4pp), ?19 December 1916, written to him by W Macgeorge giving him news of his platoon; together with an ms letter (1p), 19 December 1916, supplying a reference in support of his application for a commission; a photograph of him with his platoon and a photograph showing a hospital ward with wounded personnel; two photocopies of certificates, dated 23 June 1915 and 17 October 1917, detailing wounds he received and photocopies of his Service Certificate and Discharge Certificate with supporting pension paperwork. The collection also includes a press cutting about the Royal Naval Division's success at Beaucourt and two Ordnance Survey maps of Hampshire and Dorset; a Home Guard certificate issued to him for his service with B Company of the 7th Hertfordshire Home Guard Battalion, May 1940 - December 1944; No 2 Platoon 7B, Herts Home Guard Supper Menu, January 1945; photograph of him wearing his LDV arm band; a map of Berkhamsted, Ashridge and District showing the platoon areas marked out; and a notebook giving details of his Sections's duties.
