Two ms letters (7pp), 25 February and 21 June 1915, written to his father and a ts letter (7pp), 12 April 1915, written to Mrs Raven whilst serving as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 6th Battalion (attached 1st Battalion) Rifle Brigade (11th Brigade, 4th Division) on the Western Front, describing life in the trenches, various attacks and counter attacks by the German forces and his efforts to assist wounded men; together with two photographs, with ms comments, of him in France and five press cuttings reporting his award of an MC for holding off an attack on a Canadian Dressing Station three days before he was killed in action on 7 July 1915.

Who Was Violette Szabo?

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
