Photocopy (27pp) of an ms account, written from his hospital bed in December 1916, in which he describes his experiences while serving with the 11th Infantry Battalion AIF during the First World War, recalling his journey from Australia to France, embarking by ship on 23 November 1915 and stopping at Columbo, where he undertook a train journey to visit local villages, and then Port Said where his unit disembarked, outpost duty in Egypt along the Suez Canal where he describes living conditions in the desert, his embarkation from Alexandria (March 1916) and voyage via Malta to Marseilles, France, the train journey to Sailly where his Battalion entered the trenches (May 1916), trench routine and his impressions of being under enemy fire, repelling a German raiding party under heavy bombardment, his move to the Somme sector (July 1916) and involvement in the attack on Pozieres. The account ends with Holden in hospital, recovering from wounds.
