Documents pertaining to brother and sister Herbert and Dorothea Koniec, Czech children from Bratislava who left Czechoslovakia for Britain on the 'Kindertransport' scheme in 1939 (both were taken in by families in Scotland), comprising: circa 50 letters (in German, with English translations) written during 1939 - 1941 to Dorothea by her mother; circa 70 letters (some in German, mostly in English) written by Dorothea to her parents, 1939 - 1941; circa 40 letters (in German, Czech and English) written by Herbert to his parents, 1939 - 1941; other related items of correspondence; Czech school registration cards (Ziacka legitimacia) for Herbert and Dorothea; Herbert's Pupil's Report Book (Scotland); leaflet sent to Dorothea's parents by the 'British Committee for Children in Prague', containing instructions concerning her departure from Prague by rail in May 1939 (1p ts, in German); two telegrams sent by Dorothea to her family in Bratislava from Bearsden near Glasgow, Scotland, where her foster-parents lived, informing them of her safe arrival (June / July 1939); two postcards sent to her by friends in Hungary, December 1939; Red Cross message from Dorothea to her parents, July 1942, with a return message from an Emil Weiss informing her that her parents were "resettled" to Poland in the previous month [they both perished there]; undated letter in German (4pp ms) to Dorothea from former school classmates in Bratislava; several photographs of the Koniec family and of the children in Scotland with their foster-parents; copy of Herbert Kay's recollections of his experiences from 1939 to the 1950s (12pp ts); documents concerning Herbert Kay's postwar attempts to claim on his father's life insurance policy.
