11 ms letters (114pp) and 2 ms letter fragments (4pp) to his cousin, Vi, written during his service as a clerk with the RAMC (October 1916 - July 1917) and later as a gunner with the 3rd Battalion Tank Corps (October 1917 - November 1918), in which he discusses his deeply philosophical temperament, his love of nature and poetry and his inability to comment on his own wartime experiences; he also expresses his pride in his role in English history and regrets the lack of moral indignation among the citizens of England, which he feels would lead to a decisive end to the war, his grief over the loss of a dear friend who was wounded, taken prisoner and consequently lost the use of both legs and his concern that a declaration of peace would be useless because of the personal hatred that will remain with all combatants, as well as a photograph of Lynch and two unidentified friends.
