Ts memoir (17pp), written in 2006, describing his childhood, spent mostly in Arbroath, Scotland, with his mother's family while his father served with the RASC in Italy (1938 - 1945), various First World War veterans who told him of their war experiences, an Allied Bomber that crashed and burned just outside his town, the death of his sister's friends in the Blitz (October 1940), his fear of his father's gas mask, the growing shortages of food and clothing (1943 - 1945), his memories of the D-Day landings (June 1944) and the Battle of Arnhem (September 1944), the return to his home in England which was only slightly damaged by German bombing (1945), his memories of Long Ditton, a German prisoner of war camp established near his house and his relationship with some of the prisoners (1945 - 1946) and some of his father's experiences while serving in Italy (1942 - 1945).
