Ts diary (161pp) written by him while serving as a driver with the 1006 Motor Transport Company of the Army Service Corps, first in United Kingdom from 9 November 1915 until 30 July 1917 and then in Palestine until his demobilisation in August 1919, describing in good detail his experiences during his time spent as a soldier in England and his impatience to enter the war, confrontations with German submarines en route to Egypt, adjustment to the harsh living conditions in Palestine, his driving duties around various cities including Gaza, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramleh, Jericho, and Lutron, and closing with a good account of the effect of the Armistice on both himself and on the British troops in Palestine. Also included is a ms letter (4pp) written by him on 24 September 1919 describing his anticipation at leaving the Army behind and beginning life as a civilian, a picture book (48pp) entitled 'Up the Nile' purchased by him while in Egypt awaiting demobilisation, and a ts extract (4pp) from the Egyptian Mail dated 15/10/14, entitled 'The Somme of Sinai: Gaza's River and Wady'.
