Ts memoir (18pp, written in 1997) with 10 photographs (6pp) recording his experiences (August 1939 - January 1946) in the ranks of the Territorial Army (TA), including service with the 42nd Battalion Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) in Annual Camp at Aldershot (August 1939), at Warlingham, Surrey (September 1939 - May 1940), downgraded to B1 and posted to the Royal Armoured Corps Base Depot in France at Villeneuvre near Evraux and then at Gueron near Pornichet (May 1940 - June 1940); evacuation from St Nazaire on the SS LANCASTRIA, which was sunk, and then on the troopship ORONSAY, having been rescued from the water, to Plymouth (June 1940); service with 42nd RTR in the Cavalry Barracks at Aldershot, Hampshire and Bulford and Westbury in Wiltshire until his transfer to the Royal Engineers (RE) and training at Shorncliffe Barracks in Kent (June 1940 - December 1940) and with No 1 Training Battalion RE (TBRE) at Clitheroe in Lancashire (December 1940 - January 1941); service with the 38th Field Company RE (5th Division) at Belle Isle, near Enniskillen, in Northern Ireland (June 1941 - January 1942); in Caterham, Surrey (January 1942 - March 1942); on the journey to India (March 1942 - June 1942); in India (June 1942 - September 1942); Iraq (September 1942 - October 1942); and Persia (October 1942 - January 1943); active service with HQ, RE, 5th Division (January 1943 - February 1943); Syria (February 1943); the Lebanon (March 1943); Palestine (June 1943); Egypt, (June 1943 - July 1943); and during the invasions of Sicily (July 1943 - September 1943) and Italy (September 1943 - March 1944), being evacuated to hospital with infectious hepatitis to Foggia in Italy, Phillipville in Algeria and Bizert in Tunisia and on his return to Italy wrangling a return to his unit (September 1943 - December 1943, and landing at Anzio (March 1944) and the journey to, invasion and occupation of Germany (March 1944 - January 1946, when he was demobilised); and commenting on getting married (September 1939); his dislike of army life and the poor food; being billeted on a local family, acting as batman; the panic on the sinking of the LANCASTRIA and the heavy casualties amongst his comrades; soldiers singing in the water and being machine gunned by the Germans; life on the home front and in India; married life during wartime; his comrades and officers; his off-duty entertainment, including his love of classical music and sight seeing in Italy, notably in Rome.
