Ts memoir (38pp, undated) of a RAF flight mechanic covering the period January 1941 - May 1946, describing joining up, his training at No 9 RC and No 3 School of Technical Training at Blackpool (March - October 1941), his first posting as an airframe fitter to RAF Benson, Oxfordshire (November 1941 - January 1942), where he worked on Spitfires, and then RAF Leuchars, Scotland (January - March 1942), with a detachment to Wick, RAF Sealand, Cheshire (March 1942 - February 1943), RAF Netheravon, Wiltshire (February - autumn 1943), and RAF Westhampnet, Surrey (autumn 1943 - June 1944) with 403 Repair and Salvage Unit (RSU) in the Aircraft Repair Section, travelling to many different airfields across Southern England, his promotion to Corporal (June 1944), the crossing to Normandy and landing on Gold Beach (17 June 1944), the unit's duties at St Croix (June - August 1944), before following the Army through France, Belgium and the Netherlands, where he was based at Eindhoven (autumn 1944 - Spring 1945), the Luftwaffe's attack on the airfield on 1 January 1945, during which numerous aircraft were damaged but few casualties sustained, crossing the Rhine (April 1945) to Osnabruck and Celle, where he met former inmates of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and Flensburg, near the Danish border, where he witnessed starving German soldiers and civilians, and Lubeck, before returning to England and being demobbed from RAF Cardington (May 1946).
