Various photocopied documents relating his service in the Chaplains' Branch of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and the posthumous award of the George Cross for his actions during the sinking of the troop carrier SS ANSELM by U 96 on 5 July 1941, including three letters describing the sinking of the ship, notably an edited ms transcript of a letter dated 20 May 1942 (5pp) to Pugh's mother from the Reverend Swallow who was also on board the ANSELM, describing Pugh's efforts to help and comfort the men trapped in the ship and a ts letter dated 18 December 1964 (1p) from Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock, commander of U 96, describing his attack on the ship and her escort; also reports from the master (4pp) and chief cook (1p) of the ANSELM describing the sinking, a number of articles giving accounts of Pugh's efforts, his ministry, demands for formal recognition and his subsequent award of the GC; images of the ships involved in the incident (2pp) and extracts from U-Boats: A Pictorial History by Edwin P Hoyt.
