Detailed ts memoir (47pp, written circa 2005) by an RAF armourer describing his pre-war training at No 1 Air Armament School, RAF Eastchurch, Kent (February - July 1939), his posting to No 64 Squadron where he was attached to 'A' Flight, first at RAF Church Fenton, Yorkshire (July 1939 - May 1940), which included a detachment to RAF Evanton, near Inverness (October 1939 - March 1940), before moving to RAF Kenley, Surrey, for the Battle of Britain (May - September 1940), and then RAF Leconfield, Yorkshire (September 1940), his further training on the Fitter Armourer Conversion Course (October 1940 - January 1941) and being posted to the newly formed No 260 Squadron, RAF Macmerry, East Lothian, and being sent to the Middle East where he was stationed at Haifa and Mersa Metruh, before being made part of the newly formed 239 Wing (May 1942), advancing through the Western Desert in support of the Eighth Army and on to Sicily (July 1943) and then Italy, with details of his duties working on Blenheims (No 64 Squadron), and then Hurricanes, Kittyhawks and Mustangs (No 260 Squadron), the nature of a typical day during the Battle of Britain (June - September 1940), and then life in the desert, his promotion to sergeant, and the Battles of El Alamein (October 1942) and Monte Cassino (May 1944). Together with two expanded ts accounts (48pp and 14pp) relating to his service with No 64 Squadron July 1939 – May 1940 describing the changes to working practices following the declaration of war and his relationship with his pilot, Flying Officer O'Meara, also an account (5pp) describing the allocation of the NAAFI ration during the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy and another account (8pp) relating to the fatal ejector seat accidents involving Meteors whilst serving with No 65 Squadron at RAF Duxford in the 1950s.
