Interesting ts journal (75pp), compiled by R C Hyde and W A Childs, of the activities of Air Ministry Experimental Station 8009 (RAF radar unit), covering its embarkation to Tunisia (December 1942), the rough conditions during the voyage, a brief stop at Algiers, arrival at Bone and living conditions in North Africa, their base at Cap Serrat in Tunisia (January - March 1943) where the unit observed and reported on aircraft and shipping moving between the Tunisian coast and Sicily, German air raids on their position, their orders to evacuate Cap Serrat before the arrival of German forces and move west to Setif in Algeria until the Axis surrender in North Africa (May 1943); their move to Hammamet in Tunisia to provide relief crews for mobile units (May - July 1943), their move back to Algeria for duties at Cap Tenes, Algeria (July 1943) then Surcouf (August 1943); then embarkation from Bizerta to Salerno, Italy (September 1943) from where they set up base near Pisciotta (October 1943 - June 1944), the different living conditions in Italy to those they had been experiencing in North Africa, relations with the locals, and their move north to Tarquinia (July - August 1944) and Guasticce (September 1944 - May 1945).
