Ms diary (136pp), June 1940 - January 1945, compiled by three Guiders who ran the Balendoch Evacuation Hostel in Perthshire for up to forty children evacuated from Glasgow, with monthly entries describing the opening of the hostel (July 1940) and the daily routine, the activities organised for the children such as games, singing, learning to swim and summer camping holidays, the childrens' contributions to the war effort such as fruit and potato picking, their relationship with the local community, and the importance to the successful running of the hostel of American Red Cross parcels and other benevolent contributions. The book is illustrated with photographs of the children, newspaper articles about the hostel, several letters from the Chief Guide Olave, Lady Baden-Powell, (October 1942 - December 1944) in particular thanking the children for their contributions to Girl Guides Association fundraising activities, and some touching letters to the Guiders from children after they had left the hostel.
