Photocopies (17pp) of a small collection of papers relating to his service as a NCO with the Royal Army Medical Corps (28th Division) on the Western Front during the First World War, comprising an excellent ms account of life in the trenches at Zonnebeke, 21 - 26 April 1915, during the opening days of the 2nd Battle of Ypres, including descriptions of the intense shelling, the first German gas attack and the resulting casualties; an ms recommendation for his award of the DCM for treating gas casualties during the battle, dated 10 August 1915; two sketches of his dressing station dated May and September 1917; two photographs of him in uniform; his commission certificates as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion Hampshire Regiment (September 1918) and as a Lieutenant in the Army Educational Corps (December 1920); and a modern newspaper cutting relating to his war service.
