Ms diary (166pp) written on paper extracted from cigarette packets while he was being held in captivity in Bucharest, December 1943 - August 1944, in which he describes being parachuted into Romania with two other agents, Lieutenant Colonel Alfred de Chastelain and Silviu Metianu, on a mission for the Special Operations Executive (SOE) (Operation Autonomous), their capture by Romanian gendarmes almost immediately and conditions during their imprisonment including mention of their interrogation by the Romanian authorities and by German military intelligence and events prior to and after the coup d'etat in August 1944, which led to their release as well as extensive references to the situation in Bucharest at this period, including extracts (mainly in Romanian) from national newspapers, and descriptions of the Allied bombing raids on the capital and elsewhere; also 2 ts typescripts (each 124pp) comprising an expanded transcript of the diary, a score card for some of the bridge games played in captivity, a pass issued in Bucharest in 1946, a portrait photograph and a photocopy of a letter from Winston Churchill dated 2 February 1947.
