32 ms letters (35pp) and 24 airgraphs and postcards, written to his wife in Chingford, Essex, during his service overseas with the Royal Fusiliers in the Middle East, October 1942 - August 1943, and then as a prisoner of war in Stalag 344, Germany, September 1943 - April 1945, including his arrival in the Middle East and initial attachment to the 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (January - April 1943) and the 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (April - September 1943), with notes on camp life and entertainment and the state of his morale, and the importance of receiving mail and parcels; together with 2 pocket diaries (128pp) with notes on his march from Stalag 344 to freedom (January - April 1945) and his itinerary from landing in Durban (September 1942) to being captured, possibly in Italy (September 1943), rations and the contents of food parcels, daily activities, air activity over the POW camp, and rumours of war news (January - December 1944). Also with the collection are his service and pay book, with some details censored, and ts papers (4pp) informing his wife of his capture (October 1943).
