Photocopies of 124 ms letters written mostly to his girlfriend (later wife) during August 1950 - October 1951, forming an interesting account of his call-up from the Officer Reserve into the 1st Battalion The Royal Ulster Rifles, preliminary training in the east of England, and overseas service in Korea from October 1950 until October 1951 as part of 29th Independent Infantry Brigade Group (US Eighth Army), describing his participation as a platoon commander in the Battalion's actions during the Korean War in the defence of Seoul and along the 38th Parallel, with particular reference to his views on the conflict generally and the lengthy peace negotiations, his desire for a speedy end to the war and his affection for his girlfriend, commenting also on the severe casualties sustained by the Battalion on the Imjin in April 1951, all written very much from the perspective of a 'civilian in uniform'; also a small number of associated documents, newspaper cuttings and photographs, including one of himself and his girlfriend taken on his arrival back in the UK from Korea.
