Collection of captioned photographs and documents recording the service of Miss Barbara May as a mobile VAD nurse during the Second World War (1942 - 1945), stationed first at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, and then at the Military Hospital at St Hughes College, Oxford, including a published history of the hospital at Netley; together with miscellaneous documents accumulated by Gunner Brinley Thomas during his service with the 86th Siege Battery RGA on the Western Front during the First World War, including three captured German postcards, notes made whilst at an observation post, and several poems on the theme of 'Cosy Corner'.

Who Was Violette Szabo?

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
