Two ms diaries (April - May 1940, 40pp; January - May and November 1945, 70pp) and loose ms notes (March 1943 - November 1945, 15pp), with ms memoir covering May 1939 - April 1944 (undated, 2 notebooks of 64pp), with ts transcription (34pp), including details of his enlistment in 1939, service as a lineman with the Royal Signals (54th Division), his service in the BEF until his evacuation from Dunkirk on 29 May 1940 on board a Glaswegian freighter, his service in the Signal Section of the 21st Army Tank Brigade in North Africa (March 1943 - February 1944), including his involvement in the final assault in Tunisia (May 1943) with descriptions of Italian soldiers surrendering, Italian and German prisoners of war, and the victory parade, his service attached to the 28th Infantry Brigade in Italy (March - December 1944), and service in Greece until his demobilisation as a NCO (December 1944 - November 1945), with humorous descriptions of his social life and the camaraderie throughout; two scrapbooks (August 1939 - October 1945, 29pp; undated, 99pp) containing excellent sketches and cartoons, photographs, newspaper cuttings, tickets and programmes relating to his wartime experiences. The collection also includes a map of France showing the route of his retreat in May 1940, a map of Rome, his training notes (72pp) and his Service and Pay Book.
