Ms diary (20 folios) written between 7 and 12 May 1941 by an ordinary seaman serving in the destroyer HMS BULLDOG when she was one of the escort force with convoy OB 318 during its passage across the North Atlantic, and describing in particular a series of successful U-boat attacks on the convoy, the capture of U 110 after she was depthcharged by the corvette HMS AUBRIETIA, the recovery by a boarding party from BULLDOG of vital codebooks (as well as, unknown to the diarist, an Enigma machine) from the U-boat before she sank after being taken in tow by BULLDOG, and his conversation, in Spanish, with a member of U 110's crew after BULLDOG's arrival in Iceland about various subjects, including the outcome of the war, the Jews and the Italians; together with a photograph of some of the crew of U 110 chipping snow and ice off their boat that was recovered from the submarine by the boarding party on 9 May 1941.
