Photocopied ms letter (11pp) written during his service as a Midshipman in the cruiser HMS EURYALUS at Gallipoli, 4 May 1915, describing in excellent detail the landing of the Lancashire Fusiliers at W Beach on 25 April as seen from his position in one of the picket boats, referring in particular to the high casualty rate which he felt could have been avoided through better preparation, while mentioning the landings at X and Y Beaches, the harsh fighting to secure the landing places and the diversionary attack on the Asiatic side of the Dardanelles at Kum Kale. Together with an excellent photocopied ms letter (4pp) written by his future wife Patricia Carver, aged 19, to her cousin, November 1918, describing her excitement at the announcement of the Armistice, the crowd outside Buckingham Palace, and the intense patriotic fervour of the crowd as HM King George V greeted them.
