177 ms letters written to his parents (June 1940 - July 1946) at the family farm near Guildford, Surrey, covering his studies at the South Eastern Agricultural College, Ashford, Kent, then Reading (June 1940 - August 1941), his training as a flying boat pilot with the Royal Air Force in Canada and the United States (December 1942 - March 1944), and his overseas service in Ceylon at RAF Koggola (December 1944 - July 1946), including details of his journey to Canada (December 1942), his flying training, his impressions of Canada and the United States, his journey to Ceylon (December 1944), his impressions of Ceylon (January 1945), his comments on the general election in Britain (August 1945) and the atomic bomb (August 1945), his visits to Far East countries both on leave and on duty, and his regrets at leaving the RAF following his demobilisation (June 1946), with little comment on his wartime duties but some notes on his role in the transportation of military personnel following the cessation of hostilities in the Far East.
