Word processed ts transcription (22pp) of an excellent diary written during his service as a Private with the 8th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment (143rd Brigade, 48th Division until September 1918, then 75th Brigade, 25th Division) on active service in France, September - November 1917, in Italy, November 1917 - September 1918, and then back in France briefly before being wounded and evacuated back to hospital in the UK in October 1918, describing trench conditions and raids, his train journey to the Italian front, Christmas celebrations, recreational activities including football, relations with the Italians, rations and the purloining of extra food and drink, time spent in a CCS and convalescent camp suffering from minor ailments, his guarding of an Austrian prisoner, the debris of the battlefields, gas warfare, his wounding in the hip during the Battles for the Hindenburg Line (6 October 1918) and evacuation for medical treatment to Burden Military Hospital at Weymouth, recording the serious nature of his injury and slow convalescence.
