Papers consisting of reports, notes, maps and correspondence relating to his military career, 1916 - 1952, including his command of the 5th Indian Division in the Eritrean Campaign (1941) and of the 3rd Indian Corps in the Malayan Campaign (1941 - 1942); his imprisonment on Singapore (February - November 1942), Formosa (November 1942 - October 1944) and in Manchuria (October 1944 - August 1945); and his post-war studies of the Malayan campaign, including correspondence with Lieutenant General A E Percival and the compilers of the histories of the Eritrean and Malayan campaigns.
Military conflict took place during every year of the 20th Century. There were only short periods of time that the world was free of war. The total number of deaths caused by war during the 20th Century has been estimated at 187 million and is probably higher.
