Collection of 44 items relating to his service in the RAMC in France, Italy, Afghanistan, India, Burma and the United Kingdom, 1914 - 1949, including an ms copy of the war diary of the 41st Combined Field Ambulance RAMC (2nd Indian Division) in Afghanistan, May - August 1919, detailing transport difficulties and lack of equipment, their journey to Landi Kotal, difficulties caused by dust and water supply, an outbreak of cholera (June), the first and only casualty admitted to the ambulance and the difficulties of camel transport for the wounded; together with his certificates, commission documents and medical diplomas, service records and related correspondence, 1914 - 1949; newspaper extracts relating to his career during 1914 - 1923; and miscellaneous correspondence and other items covering the period 1911 - 1965 and including duplicated copies of letters accompanying the award of commemorative medals for the fighting on the Asiago Plateau in Italy (June 1918) and a ts letter appointing him as Honorary Surgeon to the Viceroy of India (June 1938).
Military conflict took place during every year of the 20th Century. There were only short periods of time that the world was free of war. The total number of deaths caused by war during the 20th Century has been estimated at 187 million and is probably higher.
