Papers relating to his service as an NCO with the Royal Corps of Signals, May 1940 - February 1946, including 21 ms letters and cards (50pp) from his parents, sister, and cousin in the UK and his girlfriend (Odette) from Beirut and Aleppo in Syria, February 1940 - December 1944, mainly giving family news; 3 photographs of him in uniform and at Blackpool (3pp), 1942 - 1949; a file of ts and ms confidential, official correspondence with the Legal Aid Section, Western Command in Chester, the Central Clearing House, RPO, MEF, and the Legal Aid (Welfare) Section of GHQ, MEF in Cairo (21pp), August 1944 - November 1945, relating to his earlier marital problems (his wife had been imprisoned for theft), his requests for a Compassionate Posting to the Home Establishment and that Family Allowance and Qualifying Allowance for his wife be stopped on the grounds of infidelity with an American soldier while he was away on active service overseas, and his subsequent wish to divorce her; his Soldier's Service and Pay Book (20pp), May 1940 - February 1946; his Soldier's Release Book (7pp), February 1946; ts official papers (12pp), September 1945 - February 1947, relating to his service with the 57th Training Regiment RAC in the UK (May 1940 - August 1941) and as a Sergeant in the Cipher Pool with No 2 Company, 3 GHQ Signals in Egypt (August 1941 - May 1945), his demobilisation, and the award of his Campaign Medals; his correspondence (8pp) with the Poor Persons Committee and the Services Divorce Department of the Law Society in London, February 1946 - June 1947, when he obtained a divorce from his wife on grounds of adultery; 7 certificates (9pp) relating to his two marriages, March 1920 - July 1947, when he married his second wife; and his Certificate of Registration on the Register of Disabled Persons (2pp), August 1974.
