Original ms diaries, and a ts microfilm copy of the diaries, covering his service as a junior officer in HM Trawlers CAPE ARGONA, 1940 - 1942; HMS HORNPIPE, 1942 - 1944; and in command of HMS SHEPPEY, HMS MULL and HMS PROSPECT, 1945 - 1946; describing his duties in HMS CAPE ARGONA on patrol and escort duties in Home waters, rescuing survivors of HMS EMPRESS OF BRITAIN, escort duties through the Denmark Straits, the inexperience of the officers before joining HMS HORNPIPE as First Lieutenant, the condition of the ship, their voyage to Bougie in North Africa (June 1943) and then to Naples (October 1943), witnessing the first day of the Anzio landings (January 1944) before being employed on escort duties from Naples to the beachhead, revealing the effect of air attacks and lack of progress on his nerves and commenting on disciplinary problems before embarking on an attack against a German convoy (December 1944) and then assuming command of HMS SHEPPEY, a Fleet danlayer in the Aegean, describing the mutual respect between opposing coastal forces, minesweeping duties, and then service in HMS PROSPECT in Norway, working after the war with the Germans on mine clearance until his demobilisation.
