Various papers relating to his life and work during and after the Second World War, including: two letters (6pp ms) written to his sister in 1941 while he was a pupil at Brentwood School in Essex, including descriptions of air raids in the vicinity and the shooting down of a German aircraft; copies of two newspaper articles (5pp ts) dated 1943, one concerning the effects of wartime conditions on juvenile delinquency; documents and photographs relating to his service in the Royal Navy, 1943 - 1946, including a leave pass, notes on the places he docked (7pp ms), Christmas menu for HMS IMPLACABLE (1945), release documents and Certificate of Service; miscellaneous papers and photographs relating to Forbes' work as a journalist including a Control Commission for Germany Movement Order dated 1951 permitting a journalist to travel from Berlin to Hanover, press passes for the Royal Navy Barracks, Portsmouth to report on Reservists being called up (1p, August 1950) and for the Coronation Naval Review (1p, June 1953); and covering the Suez Crisis in 1956, including a series of press telegrams and cables sent by him to London, his British War Correspondent's License and a memorandum concerning delays in press communications between Port Said and London (45pp).
