Microfilm copy of a memoir in two parts (257pp and 362pp) covering his service as a Private with the 1st Battalion Devonshire Light Infantry (95th Brigade, 5th Division) from 1914 to 1916 on the Western Front, in the Ypres Salient and on the Somme; and then as a policeman in Sidcup, Kent during the Second World War, describing the Blitz and V1 and V2 air raids on South London.

Who Was Violette Szabo?

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
