Microfilm copy of a large collection of papers comprising 3 volumes of ts memoirs (191pp) and 14 volumes of other papers, largely his 267 letters home, (with 454pp ts trancriptions) relating to his Army and colonial service during 1918 - 1943 mainly in East Africa, British Somaliland and Ethiopia, beginning with his attendance at Sandhurst (1918) and commissioning into the Gordon Highlanders with whom he served with the 53rd Battalion in Germany as part of the Army of Occupation (1919) and the 2nd Battalion in the United Kingdom, latterly as part of the King's Guard at Balmoral (1921) where he met the Prince of Wales, Prince Albert, and Queen Mary, before describing his years with the 3rd Battalion King's African Rifles in Kenya (1923 - 1928), his years in British Somaliland as part of the Boundary Commission (1934 - 1935), during which time he witnessed the Walwal Incident, and on attachment to the Somaliland Camel Corps (1935 - 1936), where we was able to observe across the border the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, and his part in the Second World War campaigns in Kenya, British Somaliland and Ethiopia against the Italians, during which time he commanded a unit of Ethiopian Irregulars and incurred the displeasure of the Ethiopian Emperor.
