Ts memoir (139pp), written in the late 1970s, covering his appointment and training as an RNVR officer (March - May 1940); his service in and later commands of the minesweeping trawlers EMPYREAN, RETURNO and LAUREL based on Gibraltar (June 1940 - July 1942); his command of the minesweeping trawler REGARDO at Dover (October 1942 - September 1943); and his command of MMS 78 and the 131st Minesweeping Flotilla (February 1944 - May 1945) which were based on Sheerness and helped to sweep the estuaries to the rivers Seine and Scheldt in the wake of the Allied advance in North West Europe. The narrative contains some interesting references to the disciplinary problems experienced during the Second World War in small naval craft manned by RNR and RNVR officers and men.
