Four ms diaries (pp), January 1935 - July 1940, recording his service as a Signalman in the ranks of the Royal Corps of Signals (RCS) in the UK and India, including: service with 'E' Troops, Cavalry Divisional Signals at Tidworth, January 1935 - February 1936, and 3rd Indian Divisional Signals at Meerut in India, February 1936 - August 1940, when he left for Bombay en route for active service; and commenting on his dissatisfaction with the Regular Army and the poor quality of the NCOs and officers; his own unsuitability for a technical corps; his duties as bungalow orderly, MI Room orderly, and anti-malaria orderly; his stays in hospital and on sick parades; his training; his relations with and dressing up as an Indian Other Rank to visit the local bazaar; on a charge of irregular conduct in Church and deciding to become a Muslim; trying to purchase his discharge; the conditions, the rations; his leaves in India, notably to Simla; studying for the Army First Class certificate of Education; and the prevalence of VD.
