Photocopy of a ts memoir (13pp), written in 1999 by a former sergeant, later Squadron Sergeant Major with B Squadron, 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry and covering his service in England and participation in training exercises as an armoured car regiment (September 1939 - May 1942), their voyage on the troopship STRATHNAVER via the Cape to Egypt (May - June 1942), their training for desert warfare and service at Alam Halfa (September 1942) and, with 4th Armoured Brigade, in the Battle of El Alamein (October - November 1942), their training in Palestine, following the North African campaign, as part of a beach assault group (June 1943), their conversion into an infantry reconnaissance regiment, return to the United Kingdom and training in Suffolk for the Normandy landings (December 1943 - June 1944), their service, as the reconnaissance regiment in the 51st Division, throughout the campaign in North West Europe, with particular reference to their high casualty rate in various operations and the logistical problems of proceeding home on leave (June 1944 - May 1945), and his service with the Regiment in Germany until his demobilisation in February 1946; together with an ms note (1p) on the water rations for B Squadron at El Alamein (25 October 1942), ms notes (3pp) relating to the Squadron's deployment at El Alamein, ts transcribed extracts (4pp) from the War Diary of the 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry for 14 - 20 June 1944 and a ts copy (5pp) of an interesting memoir by the platoon leader of a heavy machine gun platoon in the American 347th Infantry Regiment describing the circumstances in January 1945 in which his unit linked up with the 2nd Derbyshire Yeomanry during the Battle of the Bulge.
