Photocopy of a ts memoir (18pp plus illustrations) written in the 1990s and covering his service as First Lieutenant of the newly commissioned auxiliary minelayer HMS PRINCESS VICTORIA on operations in the North Sea from September 1939 until she was herself mined and sunk off the Humber in May 1940; his appointment after sick leave as torpedo officer of the minelayer HMS ABDIEL in Home waters, the Mediterranean including the evacuation from Crete and the supply run to Tobruk, and briefly in the Indian Ocean (September 1940 - April 1942); in the headquarters ship HMS BULOLO for the North African landings (November - December 1942); as torpedo officer of the cruiser HMS JAMAICA on North Russian convoy escort and at the Battle of North Cape (January 1943 - January 1944); as torpedo officer of the Home Fleet battleship HMS ANSON (January - June 1944); and as a staff officer in the Operations Division (Mining) at the Admiralty (1944 - 1945); together with a photocopy of his ms letter (10pp, plus 1p ts transcript) to his wife, dated 30 December 1943, giving a graphic account of what he saw and did during the action against the SCHARNHORST at the North Cape, and a ts transcript (5pp) of two letters from his wife recounting his experiences when the PRINCESS VICTORIA was sunk.
