Photocopy of an undated ts memoir (21pp) by a Territorial Army officer in the 4th Battalion Hampshire Regiment covering his service as signal officer at the Infantry Training Centre established by the Regimental Depot on the Isle of Wight (September 1939 - September 1940), as a company commander in the 11th Battalion Hampshire Regiment (formerly the Royal Militia Island of Jersey) while they were under training mainly on the Isle of Wight and in Hampshire (October 1940 - March 1943), his posting to Algeria (June 1943) and service as a company commander in the 1/4th Hampshires (128th Brigade, 46th Division) during the Salerno landings (September 1943), his appointment in Italy as 2nd in command and, from February 1944, as commanding officer of the 2nd Hampshires (also 128th Brigade, 46th Division), their period of training in Palestine and Syria (April - June 1944), the Battalion's service in Italy during the assault on the Gothic Line and the capture of Monte Gridolfo (August 1944), the crossing of the River Fiumicino and the seizure of the Montigallo spur (October 1944) and the crossing of the River Lamone and the capture of Olmitello (December 1944), their service in Greece, based on Kalamata, following the ELAS uprising (January - April 1945) and their service in Austria with the Army of Occupation until his demobilisation (May - August 1945); together with photocopies (1p each) of his original commission in the Territorial Army (1927) and the warrant for his DSO (1945).
