Ts narrative (3pp), ts transcription of signals (3pp) and an associated presscutting relating to the rescue by HMS KEMPENFELT and other ships of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla of survivors from the Spanish Nationalist cruiser BALEARES after she had been torpedoed and sunk off the east coast of Spain in the early hours of 6 March 1938; ms copies on naval message forms (1p) of the signals from the Admiralty ordering the commencement of hostilities against Germany on 3 September 1939; ts copy (1p) of the congratulatory signal from Vice Admiral, Dover to all ships under his command following the completion of the Dunkirk evacuation, 4 June 1940; and a printed list (1p) of the commanding officers of the major warships in the Home Fleet on 18 November 1944, showing their seniority.
