22 ms and ts letters (59pp), July 1944 - June 1945, written to him by fellow officers and men and their widows, while serving as Adjutant of the 5th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment (129th Brigade, 43rd Division) in Normandy and when convalescing in hospital after being wounded (June - August 1944), asking for news of the Battalion, congratulating him on the award to him of the MC (September 1944) and Bar (November 1944), commenting on the treatment of wounded, the heavy casualties, and on operations in Normandy, notably the assault on Mount Pincon (August 1944); also included are a ts account (1p) of the capture of Mount Pincon in the "Wyvern News" (September 1944, 2pp) and official correspondence (11pp) concerning his wounds, subsequent unsuitability for military service and his Investiture at Buckingham Palace (August 1944 - February 1946).
