Ms diary (42pp), together with a ts transcription (4pp), containing very brief entries kept during his service with an unidentified unit mainly in Egypt, December ?1915 - March ?1916, describing disembarking at Alexandria in December and journey to Kantara, his duties and living conditions in the desert, and his transfer to France in March ?1916 where he was eventually killed in action.

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
