Photocopied ts account (67pp, written in September 1945) covering his service with the 1st Battalion SSVF, December 1941 - February 1942, and following the capitulation to the Japanese, his captivity as a prisoner of war in Singapore at Changi, February - May 1942, and River Valley Road camps, May - October 1942, then in camps in Thailand at Wampo, October 1942 - June 1943, Chungkai hospital, May 1943 - May 1944, Tamuang, Kanburi and 232km, June 1944 - June 1945, and Pratchai, June - August 1945, containing useful descriptions of the defence of Singapore, the Japanese bombing and eventual capitulation, conditions in the various camps in which he was imprisoned and his work building railways, the countryside and climate of Thailand, the danger from Allied air raids, reactions to the announcement of Victory, and interesting references to the kind treatment which the prisoners received from the Chinese, the varying attitude of the guards, relations between the Allied prisoners, and the unique Japanese mentality. Together with photocopies (14pp) of four ms letters written by him, September 1923 - March 1941, including references to his desire to join the RAF.
