Various papers accumulated by him and relating mainly to the East Surrey Regiment before and during the Second World War, consisting of: nominal roll (40pp ts) of British and Commonwealth army officers in Oflag IXA/Z (Rotenburg) in 1945, with an illustrated poster made by POWs advertising Christmas and New Year meals in the camp; four volumes (circa 100pp ts) of eyewitness accounts concerning the operations of the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment during 1939 - 1945 in France, Belgium, North Africa, Sicily and Italy; copies of official reports, with maps (14pp ts), concerning the operations of the BEF in Flanders during May - June 1940 and the subsequent withdrawal to Dunkirk; and a collection of photographs mainly showing officers and sports teams of the 1st and 2nd Battalions East Surrey Regiment on Gibraltar during the 1920s and in India during the 1930s, and a few showing items of regimental silver.

Who Was Violette Szabo?

Violette Szabo (1921-1945) worked for 'F' Section in Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. During a mission in France she was captured and imprisoned by the Nazi's. She was executed in Ravensbrück concentration camp and posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest honour given to civilians.
