Ts transcription of a diary account (23pp) covering his service in the ranks of 44th Brigade Royal Field Artillery (RFA) (2nd Division) during the retreat from Mons and the Battle of the Aisne, August - September 1914; as a junior officer on the staff of the 24th Divisional Artillery during the Battle of Loos, September - October 1915; and as an artillery instructor in the United Kingdom, 1916 - 1919, when he also helped to organise concert parties.
