A collection of papers (ca 400pp) from his time as Prince of Wales, relating to his service as a Lieutenant with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and as a staff captain at 14th Corps HQ on the Western Front during the First World War, comprising mainly official documentation such as orders of battle and memoranda, but including a Field Report Book containing ms notes made by him describing his movements and those of 1st Army for short periods, August 1914 - March 1915, two printed Admiralty documents contained in an envelope addressed and signed by Lord of the Admiralty Winston S Churchill, a fragment from the envelope of Zeppelin L15 which was shot down over the Thames Estuary in April 1916, timetables for royal visits to France and Egypt during the war, transcriptions of correspondence between Buckingham Palace and the Grenadier Guards concerning Edward's posting, an anonymous account of fighting in the Ypres Salient, April 1915, 1st Army War Diary for 1 - 12 November 1918, a Guards Brigade diary for 1915 presented to Edward from the 20th Brigade Staff, and Narratives of Operations for the Italian Front, June 1918, and for the 4th Guards Brigade, April 1918.
