Two volumes containing ts transcripts (371pp) of letters written home during his service as a Company Commander with the 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment (101st Brigade, 34th Division) in France, January - July 1916, as Second-in-Command, December 1916 - April 1917, as Commanding Officer, April - November 1917, including his participation in the Battles of the Somme (July 1916) and Arras with the attacks on Vimy Ridge and Rouex (April 1917), and then as Commanding Officer of the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (104th Brigade, 34th Division until May 1918, then 183rd Brigade, 61st Division), December 1917 - September 1918, including the Battle of the Lys during the March 1918 retreat and the fighting in the Nieppe Forest (summer 1918); together with ts histories (125pp) in diary form of the operations of the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, November 1917 - April 1918 and September - November 1918, notes on the raising of the 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment (a New Army battalion), maps, pamphlets, photographs, and a few captured German documents.
