Ms diary (112pp) for 1898 kept during service as a Lieutenant with the Dorsetshire Regiment in Malta and Crete, describing his main duties of making war on the Bashis bandits and preventing fighting between the Muslims and Christians; with an ms diary (209pp) for 1900 kept during his service with the Dorsetshire Regiment in South Africa, providing details of his capture at the battle of Stormberg in December 1899 and subsequent imprisonment until release in June; an ms diary (105pp) for 1901 containing irregular entries describing actions against the Boers; an ms diary (105pp) for 1914 kept during service as a Major with the 2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment (16th Brigade, Poona Division) in India, describing the outbreak of war and the landing of the battalion at Fao, in the Persian Gulf, in November 1914, shortly before he was made Deputy Governor for Ashar; and an ms diary (105pp) for 1915 describing his service in Mesopotamia, his wounding on 28 September, and evacuation home to the United Kingdom.
