Word processor memoir (35pp, plus appendices) written in 1997 describing his childhood, principally in Northamptonshire (1906 - 1919); his training as a naval cadet and service as a midshipman and junior officer between the wars with particular reference to his appointments in the cruiser HMS CORNWALL and the sloop HMS SANDWICH on the China Station (1928 - 1931) and in the destroyer HMS CRUSADER in Home waters and on the East Indies Station (1934 - 1936); his appointment as Staff Officer (Intelligence and Operations) on the South American Station (June 1939 - December 1941) including service in the cruiser HMS AJAX during the successful action with the German pocket battleship GRAF SPEE off the River Plate in December 1939; his command of the destroyer HMS BEAGLE including service on Arctic convoys (February 1942 - February 1943) and, in the destroyers HMS BURNHAM and HMCS SASKATCHEWAN and the frigate HMCS PRINCE RUPERT, of the Canadian C3 Escort Group on North Atlantic convoy escort duty (March 1943 - July 1944), his appointment as Staff Officer (Operations) under the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean (August 1944 - 1946); and his post-war service (1946 - 1957) including command of the 4th Frigate Flotilla in the Far East (1948 - 1949) and his appointment as Deputy Director Operations Division at the Admiralty (1950 - 1952). The memoir, which includes interesting assessments of Admiral Sir Henry Harwood and Admiral of the Fleet Sir Algernon Willis, is accompanied by an undated ts draft copy (6pp) of Medley's report of proceedings on the action fought by BEAGLE, in company with three other destroyers, against three German destroyers in defence of the North Russian convoy QP11 on 1 May 1942.
