Photocopies of a small collection of ms diaries (21pp) and contemporary accounts (7pp), with a few related printed items, covering his service as an ordinary, later able seaman in HMS NEPTUNE (7th Cruiser Squadron) in the Mediterranean (May - August 1940), the Indian Ocean (August - October 1940) and the South Atlantic (November 1940 - January 1941) and escorting a troop convoy to the Middle East before rejoining the Mediterranean Fleet (June - October 1941) and then in the Mediterranean Fleet battleship HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH (October 1941 - February 1942), with references to coming under air attack, patrols searching for German surface raiders, the sinking of the German supply ship GONZENHEIM (June 1941), the loss of HMS BARHAM and the Italian human torpedo attack on HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH and HMS VALIANT in Alexandria; also photocopies of a contemporary ms account (3pp) and journal (15pp) covering his service as an able seaman with "Fox" RN Commando at the landing at Avola in Sicily (9 July 1943) and of a later ms memoir (6pp) describing his experiences as a leading seaman with "Fox" RN Commando, under Force S, during the landings on Sword sector on D-Day and during the following month in the Normandy beachhead, together with copies of related documents and of brief official histories (normally 1p ts), written in 1946 of each of the RN Commandos (titled A - W).
