Bound ts reminiscences (74pp) of his military career, 1917 - 1945, covering briefly his arrival from South Africa at the RMC Sandhurst (1917 - 1918) and his subsequent service with the Durham Light Infantry at Catterick and with the Army of Occupation in Germany, including peace keeping duties in Silesia (1919 - 1922); on attachment to the Royal Fusiliers as part of the North Russian Expeditionary Force stationed on the Dvina River (April - October 1919) and to the King's African Rifles at Arusha, Tanganyika where he indulged in big game hunting (1923 - 1926); with the DLI again in Egypt (1927 - 1930), the United Kingdom and India (1934 - 1936) with reference to fascinating trips to Tibet and Kashmir, then in China (1937 - 1939) with brief reference to the international community and the Japanese invasion; in command, from October 1940, of the 1st Battalion DLI (mainly under 22nd and 23rd Infantry Brigades) in the Western Desert, January 1940 - January 1942, with good descriptions of desert warfare particularly at Tobruk where he won the DSO, and in Malta (January - July 1942); and in command of 25th Indian Infantry Brigade (10th Indian Division), July 1942 - late 1944, in North Africa, Cyprus, Lebanon and Italy with references to the torpedoing of the troop carrier MARY ROSE, the service of the Royal Yugoslav Guards in the Brigade, the capture of Umbertide in Italy, the occupation of Trieste as a defence against Yugoslav partisans, relations between Italian civilians and Indian troops and his presidency at a court martial for mutiny.
