Wordprocessed illustrated memoir (117pp) concerning his experiences as a prisoner of war shot down over Germany in May 1944 while he was serving as a navigator with 350th Squadron, 100th Bombardment Group of the US Air Force, describing the anxiety experienced by the aircrew before takeoff, coming under attack from enemy fighters, his capture and interrogation by the Germans, and transfer as a prisoner of war to Stalag Luft III, Sagan, where he talks of camp conditions and food, receiving war news from both the BBC and German radio, and sports activities and entertainments, before he was moved in response to the Allied advance to Stalag Luft VIIA, Moosburg, where living conditions were extremely bad, shortly before the liberation of the camp by American troops under General Patton in April 1945; he was then transferred to Camp Lucky Strike in France to be treated for malnutrition before returning to the United States. The memoir includes photocopies of German and American interrogation forms, newspaper cuttings, and Red Cross correspondence.
